Ian Plunkett

Ian is Chief Marketing & Communications Officer at Alder Renewables, where he leads communications, brand strategy, and marketing operations. He is also Venture Partner at Eden Block, advising portfolio companies and the fund on communications, brand strategy, culture, and executive leadership.

Ian built Twitter’s Policy Communications team around the world from 2015-2021, overseeing communications engagement on issues such as data protection and privacy, countering violent extremism, content moderation, and election security. Alongside his team, he oversaw communications strategy regarding parliamentary and congressional testimony around the world, as well as rapid response and crisis communications.

After his tenure at Twitter, Ian joined Coinbase as the first Director of Global Policy Communications where he advised the company’s leadership team on policy and communications issues facing the blockchain industry, including overseeing the first regulatory position paper published by the firm. Previously, he worked for Tech Nation, the Cameron Administration's agency tasked with furthering the UK's domestic tech ecosystem. Ian also worked on Capitol Hill for Congressman Michael McMahon, who sat on the Subcommittee for Foreign Affairs, and he is a graduate of the Washington-Ireland Program for Service & Leadership. He is a former UNAOC Fellow, UK Young Leaders Fellow, and a recipient of a Fulbright Award.

He holds a B.A. in International Relations from Dublin City University (his hometown) and an M.Sc. in Political Science & Communications from the London School of Economics.
